The library encourages the use of masks but no longer requires it.
THUNDER BAY — Users of the Thunder Bay Public Library may now enter any library branch without a face mask.
TBPL has lifted its mask mandate as of July 4.
Cherry Braye, director of resources, says patrons are still encouraged to wear masks, but are no longer required to do so.
Library staff also retain the option of wearing masks if they so choose.
Braye said the move is in line with what’s being done elsewhere in the community.
“Many other organizations are not requiring masks,” she noted in an interview Monday.
“We have had a lot of feedback about people not wanting to wear masks, and those that wanted to wear masks have continued to do so, so we’re just going to see how this all plays out,” Braye said.
The library will still provide curbside pickup service for members of the public who prefer not to enter the library at this time.
But Braye added that TBPL hopes library users remain respectful toward others at all times.
“We strongly urge people to continue to wear masks. We hope that people who are in the building that aren’t masked will continue to be friendly and kind to those that are wearing masks,” she said.
