McDonald’s to open 50 new restaurants and hire 20,000 across UK 20210620

McDonald’s is opening 50 new locations across the UK and Ireland, creating 20,000 new jobs.

The additional staff will be sought over the next 12 months as it sets up dozens of new franchises.

The fast food giant said the new jobs are explicitly for new restaurant locations and are not replacing jobs lost during the pandemic.

Paul Pomroy, CEO, of McDonald’s UK & Ireland said: ‘It’s fantastic to be able to offer an additional 20,000 people an opportunity to work with us.

There is no doubt the pandemic has had a huge impact on many people’s employment opportunities and threatened the future of high streets up and down the country.

‘Our 1,400 restaurants are run by 200 local franchisees which means we have a personal stake in every one of our communities.

‘It’s a big responsibility, and the moves we’ve announced today reflect our commitment to continue to innovate and invest in the local communities and economies we serve.’

It comes amid hopes that coronavirus restrictions will be lifted in July, meaning crews can be increased at McDonald’s restaurants.

The $130 billion company currently employs more than 130,000 people in the UK and Ireland.
