Virginia no longer requires masks for those fully vaccinated attending small outdoor gatherings.
Gov. Ralph Northam announced the new guidance Thursday for the commonwealth under a newly amended executive order.
The change comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidance Tuesday for those vaccinated. Fully vaccinated people do not need to wear a mask at small gatherings outdoors under CDC guidance. Individuals should still remain socially distant while attending gatherings.
Northam amended an executive order to allow up to 1,000 people attending outdoor recreational sports — effective Thursday, instead of May 15 as planned. The eased restriction will allow people to attend high school games as the football season comes to an end and spring sports get underway.
